We use your awesome plugin on a number of our websites. Thank you so much for your contribution to make our websites awesome!

I got an email from Google requesting we sign up for a paid Google Maps Platform account to embed Google maps on websites using an API. Do we need to sign up for Google Maps Platform to continue to successfully use your plugin?

Thank you again for your great work and in advance for your attention to my question.

    Sincerely,
    Monica Pitts

Ok to update on my findings, I’m realizing – YES – I do need to do sign up.

And I believe MapPress maps are considered Dynamic Maps, is that true? If you could just verify what type of maps MapPress maps are considered by Google that’s all I need to know.

    Thank you again!

    Hi,

MapPress uses ‘dynamic’ maps (those are the ones you can pan and zoom).

Google is requiring everyone to enter billing info. Whether or not they actually bill you depends on your usage – probably most blogs will not pay anything, and I believe you can also set usage limits to prevent surprise billing.

    You can learn more here:

If you think you’ll be paying for Google, you can try the latest (BETA) version of MapPress, 2.49. It supports Leaflet / Open Street Map maps, which are free, and MapBox maps which have a much higher free usage limit than Google.
