Translating MapPress

MapPress is translated by volunteers on translate.wordpress.org, the official WordPress translation site. Translations there include the MapPress Pro texts, and approved translations are delivered to sites automatically as language updates.

Which languages are included?

MapPress ships with complete translations for German, French, Japanese, Italian, Dutch, Spanish, Czech and Brazilian Portuguese. If a translation for your language is approved on translate.wordpress.org, WordPress uses that one instead.

How do I help translate MapPress?

  1. Log in to translate.wordpress.org with a free WordPress.org account.
  2. Open the MapPress project and choose your language.
  3. Choose Stable (latest release) for the plugin texts, or Stable Readme for the plugin’s page on WordPress.org.
  4. Suggest new translations or improve existing ones. Your language’s translation editors review and approve them.

Each language has its own style guide and glossary, linked from the translation page. Please follow them; it makes approval much faster.

Translator wanted: German

Are you fluent in German and English? I’m looking for someone to review and maintain the German translation. In return, you’ll get a free MapPress Pro license for as long as you keep the translation up to date. Contact me to get started.

Can I change a translation on my own site?

Yes. A plugin such as Loco Translate lets you edit MapPress texts on your site. Save your changes in Loco Translate’s custom location rather than in the plugin folder, so plugin updates don’t overwrite them.

Can I translate my maps and locations?

Yes. MapPress works with WPML, including translating map and marker content on multilingual sites.
