WordPress Map Marker Clustering

When many pins sit close together, a map turns into a blur. Marker clustering groups nearby pins into one numbered circle that splits apart as visitors zoom in. It’s free in MapPress, on Google Maps and OpenStreetMap.

Try it: click a numbered cluster to zoom in on its locations.

How it works

  • Automatic grouping. Nearby pins combine into a cluster showing how many locations it holds.
  • Zoom to expand. Clicking a cluster zooms in until its pins separate.
  • Same-address pins. Pins at exactly the same spot can be split apart (spiderfied) so each one can be clicked.
  • Cluster bounds. Optionally show the area a cluster covers when visitors hover over it.
  • Stop clustering at a zoom level. Choose the zoom where pins always show individually.

Add it to your site

  1. Go to MapPress › Settings › Clustering and turn on Enable marker clustering.
  2. Adjust the options if you like. Every map on your site then clusters automatically.

FAQ

How do I cluster map markers in WordPress?
Turn on clustering in MapPress Settings. There’s nothing to code and no extra plugin to install.

Is marker clustering free?
Yes. Clustering is part of the free version of MapPress.

Does clustering work with OpenStreetMap and Google Maps?
Yes. It works with both, and with Mapbox.

What happens to markers at the same address?
MapPress can spread them out (spiderfy) so each marker can be clicked.

Free vs Pro: clustering is free. The map above is a Pro mashup, which combines locations from many posts.
