Help visitors find your nearest store, dealer or branch, with no Google Maps API key or billing required. With MapPress Pro, visitors type an address or tap “use my location”, the map moves there, and the list shows your nearest locations first.
Try it: search for “Monterey” or a ZIP code, or use the location button on the map.
How it works
- Search by address. Visitors type a city, ZIP code or street address, with suggestions as they type.
- Set the search area. Choose how far around a searched address the map shows, in miles or kilometers.
- Nearest first. The location list beside the map is sorted by distance from the search.
- Use my location. The map can start at the visitor’s position and show it as a blue dot.
- Filter. Visitors narrow results by category, tag or post type, for example by brand or by service.
- Hours and details. Each popup shows whatever you write for the location: hours, phone, photos, links.
- Directions. Each popup can include a link that opens the route in Google Maps.
- Link straight to a search. A link like
/stores/?location=Denvercan open the map already searched.
Each location is a normal WordPress post
Give each location its own post or page with a map, or have MapPress create the maps automatically from address fields, including Advanced Custom Fields. The store locator is one block or shortcode that combines them all. Visitors can click through to each location’s own page, and your theme, SEO plugin and categories work as usual.
Add it to your site
- Create a post for each location and add a map with its address (or generate the maps from custom fields).
- Add the MapPress Mashup block to your “Find a location” page, choose which posts it shows, and turn on Search and Filter in the block settings.
- In MapPress › Settings, set the list sort to Distance to last search, and turn on Geolocate if you want the map to start at the visitor’s location.
Or use the shortcode anywhere shortcodes work. This is the one used for the map above:
[mashup query="post_type=location" search="true" filter="true" units="imperial" radius="25"]
units is imperial (miles) or metric (km), and radius is the search area in those units. See the mashup documentation for all the options.
FAQ
Do I need a Google Maps API key?
No. The store locator works on free OpenStreetMap maps with no key or billing. Google Maps and Mapbox are also supported.
Is there a free WordPress store locator plugin?
MapPress is free for unlimited maps and markers, with a location list and directions on every map. The store locator itself, one map combining all your locations with address search, “use my location” and filters, is part of MapPress Pro.
Can I build a store locator without Google Maps?
Yes. MapPress uses free OpenStreetMap maps by default, so there is no Google account, API key or usage bill. You can switch to Google Maps or Mapbox at any time without losing your locations.
Does it work as a dealer locator or store finder?
Yes. Dealers, branches, offices, stockists and service centers are all just locations. Put them in categories, and visitors can filter to the type they need.
How many locations can I add?
As many as you like. There’s no limit on maps or markers.
Can I show opening hours?
Yes. Popups show the text you write for each location, so add hours, phone numbers or photos there.
Does it work with the block editor and page builders?
Yes. Use the Mashup block in the block editor, or the shortcode in page builders and classic content.
Does it track my visitors?
MapPress itself sets no cookies and doesn’t track visitors. “Use my location” only works on HTTPS sites and always asks the visitor’s permission first.
